About Lynda Shrager

Author, lecturer, inspirational speaker and breast cancer survivor, Lynda Shrager holds a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from Boston University and a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Albany's School of Social Welfare. Shrager has practiced in the field of geriatric rehabilitation for over twenty-five years, the last eighteen in private practice. She has presented numerous lectures and workshops in the area of breast cancer treatment and survivor issues, and is the only member of the National Association of Professional Organizers who specializes exclusively in the area of organizing health information. She has served as a patient educator for Pfizer Pharmaceutical and the Capital District Physicians Health Plan Wellness Series. She was a presenter at the Boston University School of Social Work annual Spring Institute, the annual NYS Occupational Therapy conference and lectures at Russell Sage College Graduate School.  Her weekly health organizing column appears in newspapers throughout the country.

Shrager is a former member of the Board of Trustees of Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany, NY, the Northeast Health Women's Health Initiative, the Northeast Family Players, and was the founder of "Breast Friends," a self-help support group for breast cancer survivors. She currently serves on the board of the Upstate New York chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America as Vice President of Education and Support.

Shrager is the author of Otherwise Healthy® - A Planner to Focus Your Thoughts on Organizing Life After Being Diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  The first edition was distributed free to the medically under served with the assistance of a grant from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  The book currently appears on the Komen recommended resource list and has been featured in editions of Coping and Cure magazines. Shrager has appeared on National Public Radio's Round Table with Susan Arbetter, WNYT (NBC affiliate) channel 13's Forum with Benita Zahn, and various televised health segments. 
 
Shrager was the recipient of the 2002 Award for her support of Breast Cancer Awareness by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and BMW of North America. In that same year she received the President's Award from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America Upstate/Northeastern NY Chapter. Shrager has also been selected for inclusion in the 2004, 2005 and 2006 National Cancer Survivors Day Speakers Bureau. She was featured in the October 2005 edition of the American Occupational Therapy Association's OT Practice Magazine.

Shrager resides in Slingerlands, NY with her husband and two daughters.
